| notes |
There is a strong link between this collection and Parangon (1539), which was first issued in 1538. In all likelihood the fourth book of the Parangon was edited by Gardane when he was still working in France.
The rubric «A voce pari», above chansons 21-28, is found in the 1564 and 1586 reprints only. Surprisingly, Rhau included this rubric in his anthology; that could mean either that Gardane decided to introduce the rubric after having seen Rhau's reprint or there was another Venetian reprint after that of 1544 which is missing.
